Yotam Solomon was born March 28, 1987, in Haifa, Israel. His early years were greatly influenced by his grandparents, all Holocaust survivors, who introduced Solomon to a vast array of designer apparel from different parts of the world. A 2007 graduate of Los Angeles’ Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, Yotam Solomon’s designs are inspired by his European roots, the Middle East and Southern California upbringing.
As a young man, Solomon studied at several esteemed art schools both in Israel and the United States. At the age of nine he pursued his desire to become a violinist, which led him to focus his adolescence around music. By age fourteen, after he gained experience playing with professional philharmonic orchestras, Solomon decided to upgrade to a viola, believing that it had “more soul”. After moving to Los Angeles, he found himself attending Santa Susana High School Magnet for the Arts where he won the National School Orchestra Award. Within two weeks after his high school graduation, he enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. During his studies at FIDM, he participated in several fashion events including L.A. Fashion Week shows.
After graduation, Solomon acquired a pattern-making position for a men’s label. This job opportunity inspired him to start his own label presenting his first Spring-Summer 2008 Ready to Wear and Footwear Collection during LA Fashion Week, October 2009. The collection is available at different retailers and the groundbreaking Shopflick.com. Today, the Yotam Solomon Ready To Wear and Footwear Collection is expanding and is building toward offering a men’s line in the near future.
